Islam - My Way of Life

"Say, we believe in Allah and that which was revealed unto us, and that which was revealed unto Abraham and lshmael and Isaac and Jacob, and the tribes, and that which was vouchsafed unto Moses and Jesus and the prophets from their Lord; We make no distinction between any of them, and unto Him we have surrendered" (The Holy Quran 3:84)

The Concept of Monotheism in Islam

Belief in one God, Allah in Arabic, constitutes the very foundation of Islam. Muslims believe that there is no deity except Allah. He is  absolutely transcendent. Allah, the Creator and the Sustainer of the universe, Who is similar to nothing and nothing is comparable to Him.

The basic message of Islam is that Allah and His creation are distinctly different entities.  The message of Islam as brought by all the prophets is to worship Allah alone and to avoid the worship of His creation either directly or indirectly.

"Say: He is God, the One and Only;  God, the Eternal, Absolute;  He begets not, nor is He begotten; And there is none like unto Him". (Surah: 112)

To believe, to uphold and to declare the oneness of Allah is "Tawheed".  Tawheed comes from the words, "Wahid (one)" and "Ahad (unique)" . The opposite of 'Tawheed' is 'Shirk' which means "to join, associate and to make partners."  It is to believe that beside Allah there are other beings who share the Divinity with Allah. Shirk is a major sin in Islam.

"And your God is One God: there is no god but He , Most Gracious, Most Merciful. " (Al-Baqarah 2:163)

For a person to enter the  threshold of Islam, one simply has to declare "Shahada" with pure intentions and a believing heart.

"There is no god worthy of worship except God and Muhammad (peace be upon Him) is His messenger."

An Introduction to Islam

Recitation of Holy Quran

“Recite the Quran in slow, measured, tones.” (Quran 73:4)

One of the most amazing things about the Holy Quran is that it is memorized in its entirety by hundreds of thousands of Muslims all over the word - by those who are fluent in Arabic and also by those who are not.  Age is no barrier either for this great honour as young and old alike learn and memorize the Holy Quran.

Reciting the Quran is an act of worship, one which brings the reciter closer to Allah and earns him a multitude of reward. Listening to the Quran is also an act of worship that brings the Mercy of Allah.

"And when the Quran is recited, then listen to it and remain silent, that Mercy may be shown to you". (7:204)

Mosques - The Muslim place of Worship

Mosques  are Muslim places of worship and prayer. The word "mosque" comes from the Arabic masjid, which is related to the word sajada for "prostration', 'bow' or 'kneel" Muslims are expected to pray five times a day, preferrably in a mosque. The Quba mosque just outside Medina Munawwara (Saudi Arabia) was the first ever mosque to be built. Most mosques have elaborate domes, minarets and huge prayer halls.

  • By Chris Pearce Islamic architecture can be seen most prominently in mosques, tombs, palaces and forts. It is also seen in subordinate structures like...
  • Watch a slideshow of hundreds of beautiful mosques from around the world and witness the splendour of Islamic architecture in all its glory.

The Art of Calligraphy

Calligraphy means the art of 'beautiful writing.' Any art form which depicts images of animals and human beings is not allowed in Islam as this could lead to idolatory. Hence Muslim artisans poured their creative talent into an art form that is as perfect and as beautiful as the religion it depicts.

Quran recitation.

Recitation of Surah Rehman from the Glorious Quran

A dua

Oh Allah, have mercy on me in the name of the great Quraan,
make it for me a guide and light,
And guidance and mercy,
Oh Allah, make me remember that of it which I have forgotten,
Make me know of it, that which I have become ignorant of,
And make me recite it in the hours of the night and day,
And make it an argument for me, O sustainer of all the worlds,
Oh Allah, set right my faith which is the safeguard of all my affairs,
And set right for me my world affairs wherein is my living,
An set right for me my hereafter on which depends my after life,
And make my life a source of abundance of every good,
And make my death a source of protection for me, protecting me from every evil,
Oh Allah! Make the best part of my life the end of it,
And the last of my deeds the best one,
And the best of my days, the day I meet you,
Oh Allah! I ask of you the best whilst living,
And ask for a good death,
And not a shameful or embarassing return,
Oh Allah! I ask you for the best affair,
The best suplication,
The best success,
The best knowledge,
The best deed,
The best reward,
The best life,
And The best death.
Keep me upright,
Make my scale heavy,
confirm my faith,
raise high my status(in the hereafter),
Accept my Salah,
And forgive my sins,
I ask you for high positions in Paradise,
Oh Allah! I ask you obligation of your mercy,
And determination of your forgiveness,
And the peace of every sin,
And the booty of every reward,
And Winning Paradise,
And surviving from Hell,
Oh Allah! make the result of all our affairs good,
And deliver us from the disgrace of this world and the torment of the hereafter,
Oh Allah! Distribute between us the heedfullness necessary to come between us and the commision of wrong against you,
The obedience necessary for us to gain admission into paradise,
And the unswerving faith necessary to minimise for us the tribulations in this world,
Oh Allah! Allow us to enjoy our hearing, our sight, and our strength for as long as we live,
And make that enjoyment our heir(so that the people that we have befitted could pray for us), and place our vengeance on those that have wronged us,
And give us victory over our enemies,
And try us not in our faith,
Neeither make this world our greates concern,
or the extent of our knowledge,
Nor give power over us to those who would oppress us,
Oh Allah! Leave no sins of ours in this assembley unforgiven,
Nor any grief without being relieved,
Nor any debt without being paid,
Nor any difficulty in this life or the hereafter without being facilitated,
Oh the most merciful of all that is Merciful,
Our Lord! Give us the good of this world and the hereafter,
And save us from the torment of the fire,
Oh Allah! send peace and salutation upon Muhammed (PBUH) and his family, his companions and those that follow him,

Popped by many times Gulrukh and decided to write a comment this time. Love the zone. Your idea of the "website of the week" is very good but from personal experience a bit difficult to maintain on a regular basis. I had to change my weekly update on the woman of the week to woman of the month in the end! All the best though, my dear friend :)

This is a beautifully laid out and informative zone! The photos are gorgeous, and the placement of them is very professional. I like the passage you chose for the header of your page, because it emphasizes the link with Christianity; hopefully it helps to ease friction between the two religions. Your "introduction to Islam" block is very well organized and a good use of Helium articles.

Azan - Muslim Call to Prayer

The adhān (also azaan أَذَان) is the Islamic call to the prayer, recited by the muezzin usually from the minarets of a mosque. The main purpose behind the loud pronouncement of Adhan five times a day is to remind the believers to discard all worldly activities at prayer time and assemble for the mandatory (fard) prayers.

It is an amazing fact that the words of the azaan have remained unchanged since 630AD, when the Prophet Muhammad صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم asked a freed slave and a trusted Companion, Bilal ibn Rubah to go up on to the roof of the Ka'aba and give the first call to prayer.

And believe it or not, there is not even a single moment in time when hundreds of thousands of Muazzins around the world are not reciting the Azaan on the surface of this earth.

Dua of the Month

Du'a (دُعَاء) is a supplication made to Allah. It is an Arabic term which means to 'call out' or to 'summon'. The Prophet Muhammad said "Dua is the very essence of worship." One of Allah's commands expressed to Muslims through the Qur'an is for them to call out Him :

"And your Lord says: "Call on Me; I will answer your (Prayer)!" Surah Ghafir 40:60

 Du'a for Oneself

O Allah! Make me (live and die) for You, oft-remembering You, grateful to You, obedient to You, humble before You, sighing, repentant. My Lord, accept my repentance, cleanse (me of) my misdeeds, answer my prayer, substantiate my plea, guide my heart, straighten my tongue and banish all ill-will from my breast.

Ameen
